Why and How to Get to Know Your New Community
Moving can be painful-not in the physical sense, but in the emotional. Moving away from family members, neighbours and workmates that you have taken years getting to know can be heart-rending, especially if you won't have a companion with you in your new residence. To avoid as much emotional distress as possible, it's important to start adjusting to your new environment as quickly as possible. Get to know your neighbours. Invite your neighbours to your new residence, show them around and feed them. You may even have neighbours who will be nice enough to bring over some home-made goodies for you. You may also want to go to public places and meet the people there. Go around the neighbourhood. If a neighbour offers to show you around town, then you'll want to take up the offer. Otherwise, you could just walk (not drive) around the neighbourhood, visiting the parks and other sites. This is a great way to meet the people in your area. If you have a dog, bring it with you. You never know what kind of conversations you may be able to strike up by taking this simple step.
